Virtue Signalling

Administration's Virtue Signalling

SAFS embraces the principle that public institutions of education be non-partisan in politics and take no specific stands on the issues of the day. This principle respects the fact that public institutions are funded by taxpayers of diverse political views for the common good. The principle also makes it possible for scholars and students to research and discuss contentious issues without fear or favour.

Thus, SAFS condemns all political opinions by University administrations.

March 17, 2021. WLU and UW condemn anti-Asian hate in wake of Atlanta sex shootings on March 16. Both schools offer support for students feeling unsafe.

“He said it was not racially motivated.”

WLU Supports Scholars Strike

Sep 7, 2020. WLU supports Scholars Strike (SS) and encourages faculty, regardless of discipline, to substitute regular course content with unvetted, third-party activist content (much of which derived from Critical Race Theory).

SS demands included: defunding the police, racial preferences, and, oddly, support for CUPE 3261 to stop the University of Toronto from contracting out caretaking services.

WLU Supports Global Climate Strike

On Sep 19, 2019. WLU declared its support for the Global Climate Strike (GCS), announced it was painting a mural and encouraged students to protest on Friday (a regular day of classes). By its own confession, GCS is anti-economics, anti-technology, and anti-science.

What is the global climate strike asking for? Answer: climate justice.

What is climate justice?

1. Transition to 100% renewables by 2030 and stop fossil fuel exploration immediately.

2. Reject technology: nuclear, hydro, carbon capture, and climate-smart agriculture

3. Reject market-based solutions: e.g., carbon taxes, cap-and-trade, etc…

4. Pay climate reparations

WLU Disrupts Student Group's Guest Speaker

May 9, 2018. Lindsay Shepherd's group, LSOI, invited Prof. Frances Widdowson to give a speech titled “Does University Indigenization Threaten Open Inquiry?" (7:00pm Bricker Academic 201.)

WLU demanded a security fee of $5,331 from LSOI one week before the event.

To further interfere with the event, Jean Becker, senior advisor of Laurier Indigenous Initiatives, organized a competing event titled "the Gathering of Good Minds ceremony" in the University gymnasium at the exact same time as the Widdowson speech.
